“I don’t see them as customers or potential sales,” Bobby says, speaking about the people who come through the doors here at Braswell & Son. “I see them as friends and life-long relationships.”
Bobby Smith is the jewelry sales manager here at Braswell & Son; on most days you can find him behind the jewelry displays with a bright smile on his face that rivals the shining diamonds he takes care of. The reason he loves his job? The people. He makes it a point to send thank you cards and follow up with his customers and it’s for that reason the customers keep coming back.
“My focus is on getting the customer what they need or want, not trying to sell them the most expensive thing in the store,” he says. “They know I’m there to take care of them, not take advantage. That’s why they keep coming back.”
When asked if any particular customer stories stick out to him over the years, he laughs. “Hundreds of them. I’ve made so many great friends doing what I do, but if I had to pick one it would be the woman who came to see my wife and me the day my son was born. She was there at 5:30 in the morning before a lot of my family, just to make sure we were okay. That means a lot.”
Our mission statement here at Braswell & Son is “Pawn-brokers dedicated to building lasting relationships.”
These days it’s rare to find employees that are truly dedicated to the mission of the company, but Bobby truly encompasses what it takes to build those relationships.
“If I ever get to the point where I see my customers as sales and dollar signs, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to walk away,” he smiles. “I don’t see that happening, though, not ever.”
